Speaking in Washington on Wednesday, U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton recalled a conversation with Myanmar’s lower house speaker – Thura Shwe Mann, once a leading figure in the Burmese military government – during her visit to the Southeast Asian country last year. According to an Associated Press report, Mrs. Clinton said that former generals were learning “how to be a democratic congress, a parliament” by watching old episodes of Aaron Sorkin’s “The West Wing.”
